Naandi expanded to its eight state – Punjab, on 18 February 2008. This move was largely
propelled by the government of Punjab, led by its Chief Minister and Finance Minister who were actively
looking for safe drinking water solutions for their villages that were affected with fluoride
contaminated water.
The Punjab government’s evaluation of Naandi’s work with the
Safe Drinking Water
portfolio in the villages of Andhra Pradesh, especially in Fluoride affected regions led to
this decision.
Naandi has a dedicated Safe Drinking Water team in the state that is
in-charge of educating communities on better health and hygiene practices and of setting up, deploying
and maintaining Safe Drinking Water Centres in the villages of Punjab. Fluoride-free drinking water
is being made available @ 10 paise per litre.
This programme is a joint partnership between The Government of Punjab, Tata Projects
(who supply the technology) and Naandi Foundation.
To make the drinking water programme here more robust there we
are considering to take up programmes for the regeneration and
revival of existing and fast depleting water sources in the
region so the state continues to have a steady supply of
drinking water for its people.
